That indescribable feeling...the "Sense of Place" at Conneaut Lake Park

"There's just something bizarre about the place..it gets into
your blood and you know there's nothing you can do about it!"

It's a fact that many of the guests that visit the grounds and buildings that make up Conneaut Lake Park are often overwhelmed with a unique feeling they simply cannot describe. Until guests step onto the property for the first time it may be something completely new to them. And despite the fact that the place may appear a little run down or tired this feeling is ever-prevalient. Some call this being "bitten by the bug" or the "Lady working her magic" (The term 'Lady' in reference to CLP refers to the turn of the last century when the park was dubbed "Queen of Summer Resorts".)

Believe it or not, this "sense of place" is a phenomenon studied by geographers, anthropologists, sociologists, and urban planners. Because other individuals have done a superb job of defining this topic, we've decided to link you to their sites. Check them out!

Some Testimonials:

"When I visit Conneaut Lake Park I'm always transformed. There's just something bizarre about the place..it gets into your blood and you know there's nothing you can do about it! I don't know if it's the trees, the old architecture, or even if it's more personal than that. When I walk down this midway I feel like I'm walking beside my grandparents who used to take me here. And I now know what my grandfather meant when he said he felt like he was still walking with his parents down that very midway as a child."

"I will never forget my first visit to the park. The very moment I drove my car past the gate, something consumed me. Even though it was night and I could hardly see, the mere shadows of the environment swallowed me and carried my heart away to a time of youth and simple joys.  I was nearly overwhelmed with excitement and a sense of sheer peace and bliss as I stepped out of my car and set foot on the ground. No place I have been has ever so suddenly and thoroughly captivated my heart and emotions like Conneaut Lake Park. I felt like a child at my grandfather’s house sitting out on the hotel porch and chatting with total strangers as if I had known them my entire life. There is a powerful feeling of sentiment that tugs at you there, and one just cannot help but be carried away by it. Even though the park does not hide its age, it is beautiful in every way. The trees grow greener, the grass grows thicker, and colors are brighter, and life just feels better. There is something in the air in that place. Time simply stops, and the unrelenting outside world just melts away. It is a true haven."
